Curator of Community History (4154) Salary $36,292.00 - $43,551.00 Annually Location Greensboro Historical Museum 130 Summit Ave Greensboro, NC Job Type Active Full-Time Department Libraries & Museum Job Number 00641 Closing 4/19/2017 11:59 PM Eastern DESCRIPTION Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Primary Duties/Brief Description of Work: The Curator of Community History serves as the museum's principal historical content authority, sharing and serving residents, tourists, museum visitors, museum exhibition projects, media and researchers. The Curator serves the greater community through presentations, exhibition development, programs, visitor services and research assistance. This position serves as a community resource for local history, researching and presenting historical content and the department's mission to the wider local community through programs, publications and media. This position serves as the chief historical content authority for the museum, working with staff, consultants and scholars to create/verify historical content for exhibitions and programs, including but not limited to researching, writing and editing exhibition scripts and other publications. This position will support community outreach through researching and writing talks, providing marketing support and serving on the departmental public program team. The applicant should have knowledge of history and current theories of the American South. Also, the applicant should have knowledge of current trends in museology, exhibition development and community engagement. The person in this position will provide support for the Museum Director and staff as requested. This job is Exempt and is not subject to the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree with 4-6 years of experience working in a museum, public history organization, library or university "Or" Associates Degree with 8-10 years of experience working in a museum, public history organization, library or university Experience with Microsoft Office suite (i.e. Word, Excel, Outlook etc.) Preferred Qualifications: Master's Degree in American History 3+ years of experience in public history at a museum, historical organization or university (experience may include teaching, research or public programming) Social media/community networking experience and skills Public relations and marketing experience Agency City of Greensboro Address 300 West Washington Street Greensboro, North Carolina, 27401.
