NCMC Annual Conference in Raleigh: Poster Session.

What is a poster session?
A poster session is a short presentation that can be given several times during a session. As others have said, think “Science Fair” for the museum world. As a presenter, you will be stationed a table with your visuals and need to speak to interested conference participants, some of whom may stay to listen to your short presentation while others may just look and listen for a few minutes and move on. Providing handouts is encouraged.

At the 2009 annual conference, poster session presentations included:

Allyson Atwood
Sarah Cunningham
Elizabeth Imhoff

Graduate Students, University of North Carolina-Greensboro "Hear's My Story: Senior Voices in Greensboro"

Museum Studies students from UNCG worked with community partners to create the exhibit, "Hear's My Story: Senior Voices" in Greensboro. This poster session explores themes of collaboration, community, and challenges.

Melanie Neil
Graduate Student, University of South Carolina "Student Curators: Making a Home in the Museum World"

In guest curating an exhibit, one museum management student learned about the benefits and challenges of interdisciplinary collaboration. Listen as she shares the highlights and lessons learned from the experience.

Lisa Zevorich
Graduate Student, The University of North Carolina-Greensboro "Planning for Visitor Orientation in Museums"

A museum's visitor orientation plan should ensure that visitors are equipped with the tools needed to make the most of their museum experience. Using the orientation plan at the Museums of Old York in York, Maine, this poster session will discuss the collaborative efforts necessary to create an effective visitor orientation plan and explore some strategies that museums can employ to orient visitors.
