Conference Awards FAQ
(Frequently Ask Questions)
The Purpose of NCMC Awards
Professional and Service Awards recognize excellence in the museum profession, honor contributions made to museums, encourage students to pursue museum careers, and stimulate seasoned professionals to continue outstanding work. Multi-Media Awards recognize the broad range of creative efforts used to promote NC institutions, their exhibits, and their programs.
Who is eligible for an NCMC Professional and Service Award?
Everyone in the museum community! From administrators and exhibit designers to registrars and volunteers -- anyone associated with museums, historic sites, science centers, archives and related facilities in North Carolina is eligible.
Who can Nominate someone for a Professional or Service Award?
Because recognition by NCMC and receipt of an NCMC award is a benefit of membership, nominations for professional or service awards will be accepted only from NCMC institutional members. You can find out about your current institutional membership status by contacting NCMC membership chair. If you are not a memeber or need to renew please visit the membership page.
For Professional and Service Awards, please follow nomination process explained in the Professional and Service Awards Criteria. Additional letters of support, newspaper articles, newsletter articles, and other documentation are welcome. You can access the Nomination Form here.
For Multi-Media Awards, review the Multi-Media Awards Criteria and complete a separate Entry Form for each multi-media submission. Print two (2) copies of the entry form. Include one with each entry and keep one for your records. Submit two (2) copies of material (brochure, invitation, media kit, etc.) in its original form.
Note: Materials submitted become the property of the Awards Committee and the North Carolina Museums Council, and may be used at the discretion of the Committee and the Council.
Selection and Notification
Award applicants will be judged by the Awards Committee. Winners will be notified prior to the deadline for conference pre-registration. The 2011 Conference & Annual Meeting has not yet been confirmed for location and/or date(s). The Awards Ceremony is traditionally held during the Conference.
