2020 Conference Call for Proposals
The North Carolina Museums Council is currently planning its annual conference, which will be held in Rocky Mount, North Carolina March 29-30, 2020. This year, the NCMC conference will offer sessions that address the theme: "Small Town, Big Impact." Incorporated in 1867, Rocky Mount, North Carolina is a charming small town located along the Tar River in both Edgecombe and Nash counties. Though small, it is a town of rich history, scenic views, and new developments that capitalize on unique experiences to create big impacts within their community.
In the same way, museums strive to create big impacts within their communities. Museums exist to better communities, serve as a resource, and generally increase the quality of life. Our museums strive to be gathering places. We anchor economic development, provide educational experiences for the public, present community stories, and can even exist as safe places. By connecting with our communities, museums are larger than the walls of their buildings, they are integral and necessary parts of the larger whole. This Call for Proposals invites you to share your experiences and lessons learned in sessions focused on how your museum is making a positive impact in your community.
Several types of sessions proposals are sought:
Things to Think About When Developing a Proposal
Speakers do not receive a fee, free registration, or travel considerations for their participation in the NCMC annual meeting. Presenters who plan attend only their own session and engage in no other conference activities do not have to register. If presenters are only attending their session, they are required to notify the Professional Development Chair via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The deadline for submissions is Friday, November 15th, 2019. Selected proposals for the final program will be confirmed and notified in mid December.
